The Legal Context
Ghana's environmental laws are clear but often difficult to enforce due to a lack of visibility. Gala-Eye supports the enforcement of:
- Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703): Specifically the amendments regarding small-scale mining licenses and the prohibition of mining in forest reserves.
- Water Resources Commission Act, 1996 (Act 522): Protecting our water bodies from toxic tailings and heavy metal contamination.
- Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1994 (Act 490): Providing the regulatory teeth needed to shut down non-compliant sites.
